In honour of my baby sisters 21st birthday this weekend. I...

A friend of mine is in Australia at the moment volunteering at a wildlife sanctuary and she told me that they had a wombat there. I love wombats. Just look at its wee face.

In 2007 i flew from Scotland to Australia and spent 4 great months there.  I arrived at the tail end of September which is late Spring in Australia.  After initially spending 3 weeks in Melbourne i flew off to Sydney where i spent 1 week.  When i was in the hostel in Sydney i saw an advert for a fruit picking job.  By now we were at the tail end of October and i was needing to make some money to replenish the sums i had spent in my first month in the country.

There is a story that i will blog about someday that can continue from here, but right now i’ll get to the point.  The job was in a place called Mildura.  I assumed at the time that Mildura was relatively close to Sydney, and perhaps could have been a suburb of some sort.  As it happens after spending $130 on a single bus trip and spending 17 hours on a bus it became obvious to me that Mildura wasn’t quite “along the road”.  Mildura is 1000km west of Sydney and just on the border of the Australian States “New South Wales” and “Victoria”.

Summer in Australia is quite long.  It pretty much starts in early-mid October and lasts right through to February/March time.  This is quite different to that of summer in Scotland which tends to last from late April to early August and even then the “summer” we have can be questionable at times.

Today i arrived home from work and walked into my new apartment after a nice sunny day and experienced humidity like never before.  The reason i told you all about Mildura before was because there has only ever been one place where i experienced extremely high temperatures with very high humidity before and that was in Mildura towards the end of my time in the town (mid November).  Temperatures were hitting 40C with 100% humidity, a temperature and humidity i didn’t find uncomfortable at all.  The humidity in my flat this evening was on par if not worse than Mildura.  It was just as hot and extremely humid.

I hope the place keeps the heat in during the winter just as well as it has done this summer (so far).

In honour of my baby sisters 21st birthday this weekend. I thought I would share some of her newest photos.  She fancies herself as a bit of a photographer always has.  These are some of the area I grew up in.
